Polar Lights TOS 1/350 Enterprise

By Oggie Gonzalez

Well here's a model many of us have been awaiting for so many years. This is without a doubt the most accurate kit of the 1701 - and as Scotty would say, "no bloody A, B, C or D".

The first thing I decided on was to paint the model with Testors Light Gray. I've used this color for quite a few of my models and I thought it would be the best choice to replicate what was seen on screen. I also figured that it would appear more recognizable to people in general. The darker highlights were painted with the Testor's medium gray, as suggested by the instructions.

I started with painting and assembling the shuttlebay then went on to piece together the secondary hull. The shuttlebay was a very tight fit and I had to actually sand away at some of the walls that surround it so that it could fit. This was probably my biggest challenge. The nacelles were next followed by the primary hull and neck.

Now as easy as I make this sound, it took me over a month to assemble because the only time I really had was what I could squeeze in after work. The efforts, however, were well worth it in the end. I now have a very accurate representation of my favorite sci-fi ship, running lights and all! Kudos to Polar Lights! I can't thank them enough for bringing such a project to market. It's easy to see and appreciate that this was truly a labor of love and there are many of us old Trekkers who are very grateful for their efforts. Outstanding!
