Moebius 1/32 scale Colonial Mark I Viper

Moebius did a fantastic job with the kits from the re-imagined series and now they''ve applied that same attention to detail to the TOS Galactica ships….just in time for the 25th anniversary! Here we have my first build from the TOS collection, the 1/32 scale Colonial Mark I Viper. One of my favorite ships of all time, this kit was first produced by Monogram then eventually re-released with some modifications by Revell. Well now I''m happy to note that we have a whole new release and this time, it was done right. There are all kinds of improvements. These include deeper scribed panel lines, a more screen accurate cockpit and canopy along with proper rear engines covers. As you look closely you can see there are numerous others too. All of these new details accurately reflect those seen on the filming miniatures. The model also comes with decals that allow you to build it like the small filming models or the full sized mock up. My ship was painted with Testors light gray and detailed with Tamiya''s Weather Master kit, a first for me. The detailing kit worked well and even better than pastels when applying the fine streaks along the hull and wings. I still used some black pastels to darken things up a bit. All of this was then sealed with Testors dull coat. In addition, I decided to light this one. I know there''s a lighting kit available but I decided to go my own route purchasing LEDs from modeltrainsoftware.com. For the engines I used 1.5mm flickering blue LEDs and 3mm warm whites for the cockpit. Additional detail was added to the cockpit with the use of the Paragrafix photoetch kit which I think is well worth it. The photetch kit comes with screen and display graphics that really add a nice touch. Overall I was very happy with the results.
