Man from Planet X

By Karl Machtanz

The movie The Man from Planet X was made in the early 1950's and was and is one of my favorite movies and I wanted to capture the eeriness of this great iconic alien figure. I built the Geometric  model The Man from Planet X which is a solid resin model kit is 14" (356mm) tall on base. Included in kit is the helmet and a type of ray gun for the figure to hold.

I wanted to recreate the figure as close as possible to the movie version of the same name, so I made some modifications and additions. The chest box is solid resin which I discarded and scratch built another box using styrene with a clear front. The inside was fitted with greeblies from my scrap box along with a few LEDs. The air hose was also solid resin which I discarded and substituted with 3/32" O ring material which I formed a hollow tube for wiring to the helmet light. The air tanks on the back of the figure were too small for the AA batteries so I made two cylinders that can be slid over scratchbuilt battery holders. The chest box has an on/off switch by which all lighting can be turned on or off.
