EAS Agincourt

By David Hanners

This is the EAS Agincourt, a card model of a non-canon design of a light cruiser from the "Babylon 5" universe. The model is based on the Omega-class destroyer card model offered by a designer known as Jaybats. (I built his Agememnon ages ago; photos of it are in the gallery here.) For this model, I used his forward, midship and engine section, but reduced them to 75 percent.

While some of Jaybats' parts were used as a basis for the model, virtually everything is modified or scratchbuilt, with detail added. I used Jaybats' engine parts as templates to cut out my own pieces from metallic paper. I simplified the plumbing (why have all that exposed plumping on a warship?) and added other parts. The various turrets were scratchbuilt.

As envisioned, the vessel has no artificial gravity, so I included a "Ferris wheel" section for the crew to experience some gravity during part of their day.

The finished model is 11.75 inches (29.8 cm) long. Years ago when I built Jaybats' Agememnon, I figured the scale was 1/2871, so at 75 percent, the Agincourt  would be 1/3828 scale. The "real" ship would be 3,748 feet (1,142.4 meters) long.
