At the weekend of September 04 and 05 the "Darmstadt SpaceDays 2010" have happened. This exhibition, the only mere SF- and Fantasy modelling one in Germany, started in 2000 as a small event with just 100 visitors. Meanwhile, held yearly till 2003 and every 2 years since 2004, it grew up and more than 800 people participates. I`m part of the organization team since 2006. This year was a historic one, as we could celebrate two premieres: First, the ESA (European Space Agency) supported us with with large models of the Hermes spaceglider and Ariane 5 rockets as well as employees who gave lectures. Funny coincidence: One of them, the chief of the "Mars Express" mission, is called Dr. McKay - and yes, he IS a Stargate fan! This was the first time ever the ESA was part of a Science Fiction event. Second, the first german version of the famous IRON MODELER took place at sunday! 5 Teams were in competition for the prices generous sponsored by John and Linda Lester, owners of Starship Modeler.com, with even harder rules than in the US-version: They had just 90 minutes to build a model matching the given theme "Up, up and away". The basic kit that had to be included was a Revell Germany pocket easykit of a Jedi starfighter, and a large pile of greeblies was used, too. It was a lot of fun for all participants, and we will definitely organize this competition again in 2012. Here are some links to my online albums: |
