SS Hudson Bay

By Jim Hudson

The SS Hudson Bay is a DY-100-class ship, and a distant sister ship of the SS  Botany Bay from the Star Trek epsisode Space Seed. The Hudson Bay was won in a very high stakes poker tournament, and her new captain-owner had the ship re-fitted out in space dock. She is now a "free trader™ between Earth, the Moon, Mars and Venus. She even carries delivery pods, on the bottom of her hull, that can be sent out as far as the asteroid belt or even Jupiter, to deliver supplies. Her main function is to supply colonies and science outposts on Venus, Mars and her moons, and the bases on Earth's moon. She carries a small shuttle behind the main ˜sail™ bridge, and this shuttle can double as an emergency lifeboat, should the need ever arise.

The model started out as a resin kit of the Botany Bay,  plus some other odds-n-ends, and also the cheescake lady decals, all a gift from a good modelling buddy I made through Starship Modeler  (Thanks, Dave!) After painting the overall model white, some panel lines were drawn in. Thanks, also, to my friend Mark for taking/doctoring all of the photos!

Lastly, to qoute the Grand Master of SF, Robert A. Heinlein: "We didn't want to be one of Horatio Alger's get rich heroes either; we wanted to build space ships! (from his short story ˜Requiem™)
