Romulan Warbird

By Gerard Warwick

This is the new Round 2 Romulan Warbird. It's basically just the Romulan ship from the 3-piece Adversary kit that many are familiar with. The build was straight from the box. It went together exceptionally well, except for a few major gap issues around the warp nacelles and where the command section joins with the main body. But a little putty cleaned it up nicely. As for the paint, I did 3 or 4 various coats to give it depth. I started with interior cockpit green, then used a lighter and darker custom mix of the same color to highlight the feathers. Then I used flat gull gray to give some more depth to the wings and to add asteroid hit streaks over the body. Finally I used a dark brown rust color to low light several areas.

This is also the first time I've used Future floor polish for a clear coat. It was exceptionally easy. I bought it at my local Giant Food store. I used it straight from the bottle into the airbrush and onto the model. After two coats I had a fantastic sheen that was ready for decals. I used simple Windex to clean the airbrush. Worked like a charm.
