The Witch King

By Gerald Mohan Constantine

This is my sculpture of the Witch King which I made in 2008.

I was inspired by some photos I saw on the net and countless number of episodes of ART ATTACK. I thought to myself hmmmm can I make something out of paper... So, I went around the house and found a number of item I cld use: chicken wire, tissue paper, toilet roll, masking tape, card board, miscellaneous plastic containers, and the most important of them all - PVA Glue.

I started by wrapping an egg container with newspaper and held it together with masking tape. I then covered the whole thing with tissue paper soaked in PVA glue. While that dried I set about creating the basic shape of the Fell Beast in the same manner but used chicken wire as the main structure of the body, legs, tail and wings. The head was pretty much rolled up newspaper wrapped in masking tape and again... covered with tissue paper soaked in you guessed it - PVA glue.

I did the same thing for the Witch King and left it all to dry. I had trouble making the hands with paper so a BandaI toy robot I got from a Cracker Jack box sacrificed its hands for this project. I glued everything together and painted the whole thing with poster colours. Then I used a spray can of clearcoat to seal the colours and then painted it some more. Anything that is supposed to look metallic I painted Testors Gun Metal and dry blushed silver. At most the whole thing cost me 5 bucks to make but I lost a lot of hours working on it. On and off, it took me about 4 months to complete.

Once it was done I gave it to a very good friend of mine on his birthday.
