Hunter/Killer

This is the vinyl model kit that is well over 14" long from Screamin' Models. The original design is relatively simple yet elegant and makes it one my favorite space ships even though it had only a few shots in Terminator 2. There are at least five coats of chrome spray paint along with blue LED strobes on its underside and two white LEDs for its search lights.

I experimented with just about every type of silver paint on the market and was about 1 decision close to going as far as recasting the parts myself in resin and then using a new home chrome-plating process I came across This "Electroless Chrome" kit requires you to dip the piece in a stove-top boiling solution which would have made the vinyl melt and deform. I may use the product for a future project that can handle the high temperature.

I finally found the best and least expensive solution using Krylon Chrome spray paint. I had to prime coat the vinyl model to keep the Krylon spray from eating the plastic. After about 5 or 6 layers, it gave off a pretty good quality metal finish as you can see by the photos. I still wish however that I could have chromed the kit... >sigh<.
