USS Tsunami NCC 58218 Exploration Starship

By Dougie Bain

1/ 2500 scale; sculpted by Tim Lindsay and manufactured by Starcast.

This 8 piece plus base all resin model has got to be one of the best, if not the best reproduction of the Nebula Starship I've seen. This class has been seen in STTNG, STGEN and throughout STDS9 including the opening credits of the latter mentioned show.

I have already been shown on this site with my 1/1400 scale Nebula but this model is far superior all round. The model comes in a boxed form with full instructions and paint guide, no decals - what the hell, wing it and use some sense and drawing pens! The model is very crisply moulded and needs little to no filing, sanding or filling. It is a very straightforward model to construct. The parts consist of: the base, primary hull, two warp engines, two piece upper pod, engineering hull, upper pod support and saucer / engine pylon unit. The detailing is all there, Phaser strips, lifeboats and windows - Tim even warns you about the window painting!

I spent an evening in blizzard ridden Scotland constructing this model - little else too do ! All the parts fit with very little work. As to painting. I primed the model in Humbrol #64 matt light grey. I use Citadel paints for all the detail work. The hull panelling is done in a combination of Ghostly grey, Shadow grey, Space Wolves grey and Fortress grey. The Phaser strips are Horizon paints Steel, the lifeboats are Snakeskin leather, the engines Blood red and Lightening blue and the sensor unit is Fiery orange and Bad Moon yellow.

This ship was a great gift for my birthday and well worth the $49 USD. I would also recommend it to those starting in resin.
