Akira -Class Heavy Cruiser

1/ 2500 scale, sculpted by Byron Salisbury

This starship made its first appearance in Star Trek First Contact as one of the new CGI starships battling the Borg. It has since been seen in STVOY and STDS9. I was intrigued by the vaguely catamaran design of the ship and when I saw Byron was making it I obtained one quick.

The model is resin cast in 5 pieces including the stand and builds to an impressive 7 by 5 1/2 inches. The casting quality is very good and very little work is required to finish this model off.

I used Humbrol matt light grey as the base colour and shades of grey and blues to pick out surface details. The engines are Citadel lightening blue and blood red, the phased strips are Horizon paints steel and the lifeboats are matt tan. I used Citadel warlock purple for the impulse drives. The decals are hand done - fairly obvious, and the ship is the NCC-51058 USS Ettrick - named for the valley in Scotland where I live; the registry is a combination of my wife and myself's years of birth.

This is a lovely model well detailed for its scale and a breeze for both experienced and in experienced modelers alike.
