Chad took these pictures at the IPMS/Butch O'Hare (Chicago) fall show in November, 1999. The show was well attended, and though sci-fi and space models were not present in greeat quantity, they made up for it in diversity and quality. James Fulkerson's 1/48th scale Apollo Lunar Module (left) was especially nice. It was a kitbash using mainly the old Revell kit. He rebuilt the ascent stage, removing the solid wedge on the left front side and replacing it with a proper tube support. He also reshaped the top left side and scratch built the docking target and antenna there, then scratch built another antenna for the right rear and revamped the two kit provided disk antennae (and got one of them wrong, to boot). The RCS thrusters were modified so the nozzles all pointed in the correct directions, and the front hatch was also modified to make it more accurate. And that's just half of what he did! James plans to display this one day with a 1/48 scale Saturn V he's building. Pink Elefants (from Fujimi Elefant tank kits) |
