I built this from Lunar Models' 1/271 resin kit. It's accurate to the model used in 2010, so some minor changes were necessary to make it accurate to the ship in 2001, particularly the area behind the pressure sphere and the communication antenna mount. Due to the poor casting quality of the entire antenna assembly, I replaced it with a scratchbuilt one. The quality of the rest of the kit, however, was excellent.

The conical section behind the pressure sphere was rebuilt using an Estes rocket nose cone and a single-serving half and half container like you get in restaurants. K&S brass rod, Plastruct rod and spare parts added detail to the propulsion section. Not visible in the photos is a fully scratchbuilt interior based on movie stills and the British Interplanetary Society's Discovery Blueprints (which actually conform to the 2010 specs - fortunately, the cockpit didn't change). The model was airbrushed with Tamiya acrylics in various shades of off-white and grey to reproduce the multi-paneled look of the studio model.

The kit also came with a nicely cast, all resin, half-inch tall EVA pod.
