[More Details]

The USS Washington was first designed on paper as a rough draft. I added details to it as I went along. Some of the details were changed when I built the model. I designed the ship as it would look if it were a star cruiser. It has limited armament since it's purpose is to explore the galaxy.

The model was built to a scale of 1/4" = 10'. The actual model is approximately 2 feet long.

The basic hull was made from .080" Evergreen styrene sheet plastic. I added details from various thicknesses of sheet styrene, styrene tubing, electronics parts, and kit parts from my parts box, including: wire nuts, insulated wire, brass wire, car stereo knobs, wire mesh, plastruct tubing, clear acetate (used for the cockpit windows), car, tank, and aircraft parts, caps from detergent bottles, and many other things. I modified the kit parts to change the look of them. The figures in the cockpit were carved from styrene. I painted the model with a variety of paints including Floquil, Poly S, and Testors. The model was weathered with Poly S Paints and pastels. The insignia and other details were painted by hand with small brushes. The model took me around 3 or 4 weeks to build.
